BAREBOAT SKIPPER
(none certification course)
The objective of this course is to teach advance sailing, seamanship, boat handling and navigation with more practical sailing exercises to bring you a level of bareboat skipper of a cruising yacht.
Course Content
1- Preparation for cruising
• General preparation for cruising, chartering boat procedures and how to do the check-in and check out including safe refueling procedures
2- Meteorology
• Learning source of weather forecast, knowledge of Depression, High and Low pressure, Buys-Ballots Law in Northern Hemisphere.
3-Collision Regulation, Rules of Road
• Upgrading the knowledge of International Regulations at sea, including rules of the road, sound and light signals.
4- Handling Yachts Under Engine
• Anchoring and mooring the boat securely in different wind conditions, using fenders and lines.
5- Handling Yachts Under Sail
• Advance sail trim and steering effectively on all point of sails including spinnaker hoist
6- Navigation
• Advance working knowledge of chart work, Variation, Deviation, Dead Reckoning Position, Estimated Position, Fixing Position, use of GPS, Waypoints and VMG
7- Pilotage and Making a Pilotage Plan
• Learning principals of pilotage and determining a series of safe tracks in between hazards to the destination.
8- Man Over Board and Heaving to
• Applicable procedures for recovery of a person over board.
9- Emergency Procedures and Equipments
• Sending distress messages through VHF Mayday and Panpan procedure, when and how to use emergency equipments such as distress flares and how to launch a life raft
10- Boat and Crew Management
• Taking care of the boat at sea and in harbour.
• Delegation of duties, taking care of the crew and keeping their motivation up and building team work.
