WATCH KEEPER
(none certification course)
The objective of this course is to teach better understanding of the fundamentals of good sailing, seamanship, boat handling and navigation with more practical sailing exercises to bring you a level of watch keeper of a cruising yacht.
Course Content
1- Boat Handling
• Preparing the boat for sea, securing and storing all gear on and below deck.
2- Deck Handling
• Changing sails, preparing the boat for anchoring and mooring
3- Meteorology
• Learning source of weather forecast, clouds including theoretical knowledge of sea breeze, land breeze and katabatic wind
4- Collision Regulation, Rules of the Road
• Reaching to a higher grade of working knowledge of International Regulations at sea including the rules of the road and sound signals.
5- Handling Yachts Under Sail
• Adequate steering and trimming to all point of sails, including gennaker hoist
6- Navigation
• Reading charts, variation and deviation, plotting your position, GPS, Waypoints.
7- Anchoring and Mooring
• Anchoring and mooring the boat securely in different wind conditions, using fenders and lines.
8- Man Over Board and Heaving to
• Applicable procedures for recovery of a person over board
9- Emergency Repairs
• Emergency Repairs at sea, contents of a basic tool kit and useful spares
10- Problem Solving
• Taking a correct action in case of facing with problems on and below deck. |
